A cyclist has been killed in a collision with a tipper truck in London this morning.

The incident happened at around 10am in Ludgate Circus, reports London 24, and is the third time a rider has been killed in the capital this year.

A photo posted on Twitter by @G4Lycra appears to show the truck was turning left.

Chief executive of the London Cycling Campaign, Ashok Sinha, said in a statement on the campaign’s website: "Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the person who died today.

"It is not acceptable that Londoners making normal everyday journeys by bike must contend with the dangers of major junctions that provide no protected space for cycling.”

On Monday, Transport for London announced that radar-based detection systems would be trialled on buses, to warn drivers of cyclists and pedestrians who might be in deadly blind spots around the vehicle.
