Look recalls Aerostems due to potential safety hazard

Corrosion may lead to component failure

The US Consumer Protection Safety Commission has announced the recall of approximately 800 Look Aerostems. The Aerostem was an aftermarket available component, but also came as original equipment on 695 and 795 model complete bikes between July 2013 and December 2016.

The carbon-body stems have a stainless steel clamp at the faceplate, which if corroded can lead to failure, posing a risk for riders. At this time only one failure has been reported without injury.

The number "380706", stamped in white on the underside, may help identify affected stems. However, Aerostems without any identifying number may still fall within this recall. Full descriptions and photos can be found on the Look Cycle website under the Safety Notice tab (http://www.lookcycle.com/en/safety-notice).

Riders are advised to cease using the stems immediately and to return to the location of purchase for a repair.

For riders unable to work with the location of purchase should contact Look Cycle at 1-800-822-1980 (M-F 8:00-5:00 EDT), email aerostemrecall@hawleylambert.com, or look online http://www.lookcycle.com/en/safety-notice.
