With the trend for wider rim options on mountain bike wheels, Maxxis’ unveiling will undoubtedly be welcome news for trail riders as it significantly increases the amount of wider tyres on the market.
The 2.5in Wide Trail (WT) options will be available in both 27.5 and 29er sizes, and many of the options include key Maxxis elements such as its 3C triple compound.
Wide trail tyres offer many of the benefits of plus tyres, without the associated negatives. They can run at a lower pressure (2 to 3 PSI according to Maxxis), which gives better traction and cushioning, partly due to reduced sidewall flex when used in combination with wide rims. And the additional benefit, Maxxis claims, is greater accuracy in cornering and general handling.
“It’s a great feeling for us at Maxxis to be expanding our WT range,” comments Stephen Robinson, the company’s bicycle brand manager. “It was only a matter of time before we introduced our revolutionary WT technology to our most popular mountain-bike tyres.”
“Consumer demand for these options has been significant for us at Maxxis with the steady increase of rim sizes,” Robinson continues. “We wanted to respond to the market with superior products so our customers can see the best results in their rides. We are extremely proud of the outcome of our efforts and look forward to riders tackling the terrain on Maxxis WT soon.”
These new releases bring the total number of WT tyres from Maxxis up to six and have been selected to cater to a range of trail conditions and environments.
