Compression clothing from companies like Skins can help you recover after a long ride, but high prices have so far put it beyond many people's budgets.

That's about to change, with supermarket chain Aldi offering compression shorts and shirts at a bargain price in their UK stores as part of their latest cycling-friendly promotion.

The skin-tight Crane Sports gear is designed to compress your muscles, improving blood circulation during exercise and accelerating recovery afterwards.

The fabric has an anti-microbial finish to stop it getting smelly and a hydrophilic layer to wick moisture away from your body. The shorts are unpadded, so we wouldn't recommend wearing them for cycling, but the kit looks surprisingly good for the price – £9.99 each. Children's versions are available for £5.99.

Also available this week is a Crane Sports men's sports shirt. For just £4.99 this base layer looks superb value. It's made of TopCool fibre, which is said to offer great breathability and effective wicking.
