An £850,000 city park mountain bike trail was officially opened in Manchester earlier this week.
The 10.5km trail in the Clayton Vale, on the doorstep of the National Cycling Centre in East Manchester will be opened free to the public but will also support the development of young up and coming riders such as British Cycling Academy Programme rider, Grant Ferguson, who was at the launch.
He said: “The trails themselves have a lot to offer both beginners and experienced riders alike, and I’m sure both myself and my team-mates will be making use of them as much as possible!”
The centre is also the first course in the country to offer trails developed for accessible bikes used by disabled riders. The most difficult trail is the Urban Red Rock-it, with numerous technical features.
The trail was opened by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Naeem ul Hassan on 27 May.
British Cycling’s chief executive Ian Drake said the trail network was a “brilliant” addition to the BMX track and velodrome at the National Cycling Centre and would help more people enjoy cycling.
The Clayton Vale trails are a joint partnership between Manchester City Council and British Cycling.
