SRAM has added new cassettes to its growing range of climb-assist WiFLi transmission technology –11-32 and 11-30 PowerdomeX clusters, costing $374/£284.
The new cassette – comprising a single piece of machined steel for the main nine-sprocket cluster allied to the two low-range aluminium rings will be compatible with the company’s mid-cage SRAM RED 22 and Force rear derailleurs. SRAM claims the PowerdomeX clusters are lighter than titanium clusters at claimed 185g (11-30) and 196g (11-32).
The Chicago-based components maker says the PowerdomeX is “deadly silent” thanks to elastomer inserts between sprockets – which SRAM has dubbed the StealthRing system.
The system has already been put to use in the professional peloton. Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) has used WiFLi for a couple of seasons now and won the Vuelta-Espana in 2012 and just this year in Tirreno-Adriatico.
The PowerdomeX cassettes will be available from June and July.
