The paparazzi have long been known to use cars and motorbikes to pursue their celebrity victims, and now it seems they have a new weapon – the bicycle.

Reports from Hollywood suggest a paparazzo on a bike crashed into Anne Hathaway's car this week while trying to take a photo of the Devil Wears Prada star.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the star's black Audi, driven by her boyfriend Adam Shulman, was turning right at a crossroads in West Hollywood when the collision occurred.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Los Angeles Times that the photographer was riding a Viola 24-speed, and was moving "way too fast".

The man, later named as Freddy Ferraro, refused medical treatment and left the scene before police arrived. Reports suggest Hathaway, 26, rushed to help him as he lay in the road.

Whitmore said the cyclist had a high-end camera with a large telephoto lens, adding: "If he's not a paparazzo, he's an avid bird watcher."

Neither Hathaway nor Shulman was injured in the accident on Wednesday.
