Paul Heaton, former frontman of The Beautiful South and The Housemartins will play an exclusive gig at BikeRadar Live, which takes place at Brands Hatch on 10-11 July.

Heaton, a keen cyclist for many years, recently completed his ‘Pedals and Pumps’ tour of the UK, in which he rode over 1,000 miles between 16 pubs in 20 days to promote cycling and the traditional British boozer.

The singer-songwriter will play an exclusive set on the opening night of BikeRadar Live, Friday 9 July, which will only be open to festival-goers with a full weekend pass or riders signing on for the Cycling Plus Sportive.

Playing in the Big Top in front of an intimate crowd of 500, Heaton – who once owned a bike shop in Hull – will perform material from his extensive back-catalogue, as well as his new solo album, Acid Country, which will be released in September.

In an interview which will appear in the August issue of Cycling Plus magazine, Heaton says:

“The cycling really started as I wrote the last three or four Beautiful South records and the first two Paul Heaton albums in Holland. I really got into bike culture, hiring bikes, going for rides to the beach and writing songs. That was when cycling really got serious for me.”
