PRO Tharsis XC components for XTR Di2 launched

Shimano’s sister company offers integration option

Following the launch of Shimano’s new flagship mountain bike groupset, sister parts brand PRO has announced a pro-level solution to help with the fragile wires and battery storage. When run with a dedicated PRO headset, the new Tharsis XC components enable users to run Di2 wires internally, and hide the Di2 battery in the steerer tube or seat post. Could these components be a hint of something similar to come on the road side? We think so.

The Tharsis XC handlebars are made from a mix of T700 and T800 unidirectional carbon, feature a nine degree backsweep and are available in three different rises with widths ranging between 700 and 740mm (can be cut to length). The pièce de résistance however, is the Di2 version based on the 720mm ‘Flat Top’ model, which allows for cables and wires to run internally through the 162g bar, keeping them out of harms way.

Sitting at the bottom of the steerer clamp is the new intergrated headset adjuster. simply tighten the stem in place straight, and then tighten the adjuster until headset bearing play is removed :

Adjusting the headset is done by tightening the steerer clamp bolts (with the stem straight) and then unwinding the integrated headset adjuster until bearing play is removed

Also new is the Tharsis XC stem, which features Shimano’s headlock system and an integrated, external headset adjuster. Having removed the need for a top cap and starnut, the aluminium stem opens up space in the steerer tube for stowing an internal Di2 battery. This stem, it’s claimed, weighs 145g in a 100mm version including the headset adjuster.

Rounding out the Tharsis XC components is the seatpost. Made from T700 unidirectional carbon, the seatpost will come in either 0mm and 20mm offset versions, and 27.2mm, 30.9mm, and 31.6mm diameters. The seatpost will also serve as an additional place for an internal Di2 battery to be hidden. The one-bolt side clamp seat post comes standard with 7.7mm and 7.9mm rail clamps, with clamps for oversized 10.3mm carbon saddle rails available for purchase. Weights start from a claimed 199g.

Exact details on how the wiring is routed into the stem is to be confirmed. Pricing and availability is still to be announced, however more detail will most likely come to light following Eurobike.
