Profile Design recalls more than 9,000 stems

Cobra S stems can pose a fail hazard to riders

Component manufacturer Profile Design is recalling the Cobra S stem. This carbon-wrapped aluminum stem is prone to corrosion, which can lead to failure. There have been 10 reports of stems corroding and breaking to date.

This recall applies to approximately 9,835 stems sold in the United States and Canada. The stems were sold from January 2007 through December 2013 on complete bikes and as aftermarket components.

The Profile Design Cobra S stem was sold as original equipment on the following models: Fuji 2009 D-6 Pro, Fuji 2010 D-6 Pro, Fuji 2010 D-6 Matt Reed, Jamis 2010 Xenith T2, Scott 2008 CR1 Plasma LTD (model# 209562), Scott 2009 Plasma Premium (model # 212052) and Scott 2010 Plasma Premium (model # 215722).

Owners are urged to immediately stop riding bicycles with this stem and should contact Profile Designs for instructions on how to receive a free replacement.
