Next month Edinburgh will host a nighttime, uphill race with Scotland’s first ever Red Bull Hill Chasers. On 30 March the city’s historic Grassmarket will become a race track with riders competing on mountain, road and fixed-gear bikes.

With previous events in Bristol, England, and Malaysia, the Red Bull Hill Chasers is now in its third year. Some 500 riders will have a chance to race against pros like Michal Prokop and Jack Pullar.

Registration is open now on www.redbull.co.uk/hillchasers through midnight on Friday 22 March.

The format is two riders at a time, head to head in a 170m uphill sprint on the cobbles of the Grassmarket and Victoria Street.

The fastest 30 riders from qualifiers will be selected for the main event where they will go up against 10 of the UK’s elite riders.

“I’m really looking forward to visiting Edinburgh for the first time for this years Red Bull Hill Chasers," said Michal Prokop, three-time four-cross world champion. "The race atmosphere is going to be amazing.”

Neil Cousins of Charge Bikes will be supplying custom-made bicycles to the winners.
