Scott is recalling Speedster 30 and 40 bikes and Contessa Speedster 25 and 35 women's bikes because the steerer tube can break. Scott USA has received one report of a fork breaking, but no injuries have been reported, the company says. Anyone with one of these 2014 model year bikes should stop riding it immediately and contact Scott through their local dealer.

About 2,000 of these bikes were sold this year in the United States for between $1,000 and $1,300.

The Speedster 30 and 40 bikes and the Contessa Speedster 25 and 35 women's bikes were sold in black and white with blue, green, purple or teal accents. To identify the bike, check the serial number on the bottom of the down tube near the bottom bracket shell. The following serial number ranges are included in the recall: AS30500001–AS30504930, AS30700001–AS30704651, AS30900001–AS30903278, AS31100001–AS31103744 and AS40101604–AS40105463.

Scott USA can be contacted toll-free at (888) 607-8365 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or via email at recall@scott-sports.com.
