Entry to The Scottish Bike Show’s 100-mile sportive opens today (14 November). The event on 15 April offers a choice of routes – a 100-mile ‘sportive’ ride or 65-mile ‘challenge’, both starting at Balloch Castle, on the edge of Loch Lomond.
Prices start at £21 for the shorter route and £25 for the full distance, with discounts available for group bookings. The cost includes entry to the bike show, which takes place at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow from 13-15 April.
The addition of the sportive signals organisers’ intentions to make the 2012 show bigger and better than this year’s inaugural event, which was visited by more than 5,100 people. They’ve expanded it in all areas, with 1,200 square metres of floor space added to accommodate more exhibitors, displays and test tracks.
The indoor test track and forest trail will return, with the latter now twice the size and offering a choice of easy, medium and tricky routes to demo the latest mountain bikes on. The BSD Forever crew will again be pulling off some crazy tricks in the BMX street park, and the latest bikes and gear will be on show in the expo area. Advance tickets cost £7.50 for adults, £5.50 for children and £20 for a family pass.
