In 1990 Shimano introduced its first SPD clipless pedal and shoe — the M737 pedal and the M100 shoe. Dubbed SPD for Shimano Pedaling Dynamics, this system become the most widely used (and most frequently imitated) interface for clipless pedals.

While pedal and shoe technology has evolved, the SPD cleat remains unchanged. To celebrate a quarter century of cliplessness, Shimano has created a limited batch of shoes and pedals.

The SH-M163G is a trail shoe in a limited-edition gray style that hearkens back to the original M100 clipless shoe. Unlike its predecessor, the SH-M163G features Shimano’s latest technologies, like Cross X-Straps to minimize hotspots and TORBAL midsole support.

The SH-M163G shoes and PD-M530C pedals will be sold together for US$205. (UK and Australian pricing TBA.)
