A unique new event on the UK downhill calendar will see riders race down to the sea from the top of Constitution Hill in Aberystwyth, Wales. The track, which drops over 310ft, will mix sections of off-road and tarmac.
Organisers Si Paton and Dave Franciosy – the men behind the Halo British Downhill Series – say: "We're talking full-on downhill, street, freeride and some lung-busting all-mountain terrain, with the finish being on the seafront."
The race takes place on 13-14 November and is open to everyone. Riders don't need a British Cycling licence and there'll be a hardtail category. There'll be plenty of prizes on offer, including a £1,000 pot from Rose Bikes.
To ensure everything goes off without a hitch, there'll be live timing from Tag Heuer and a British Cycling commissaire will be on hand, along with experienced race marshals and staff from Extreme Medics.
Instead of the usual (for the UK) truck or bus uplift, riders and their bikes will be taken up to the top of the hill via the town's electric cliff railway. Practice starts at 8.30am on the Saturday, with racing starting at midday on the Sunday.
Alongside the action on the track, Rose will be showcasing their 2011 range and Monster Energy will be keeping everyone fuelled. There'll be other trade and retail stands too, along with a huge sound system, and British Cycling mechanic Ginger Rick will be available to help with repairs. There'll be a party on the Saturday night.
