SRAM in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall of 7,000 Single Digit 7 ‘SD7’ linear-pull rim brakes.
According to SRAM, a rivet in the brake unit can work loose, which can cause the brakes to fail, posing a crash hazard to the rider. To date, SRAM has received five reports of loose or detached rivets. No injuries have been reported.
SD7 brakes included in this recall were sold at bike shops and online retailers from June 2014 to May 2017. They were also sold as original equipment on ElliptiGO model 11R stride-bikes from October 2014 through May 2017.
Owners can check to see if their SD7 brakes are included in this recall by checking the date code stamped onto the rear of the brake arm.
Consumers affected by this recall should stop riding bikes equipped with SD7 brakes immediately and contact SRAM to receive a free replacement set of brakes and installation instructions.
