Stan's NoTubes has introduced the rim brake cousin to its Avion Pro wheels, the Avion R Pro wheels. The new Avion R wheels delete the disc compatible hub and add a high-temperature brake track for rim brake use.

For wider tires

The Avion R Pro rims utilize Stan's BST-R rim shape so they are claimed to work well with both narrow road and wider gravel tires. The rims are compatible with lower pressure, tubeless-ready tires, as well as with tubes.

A wide range of tire pressures is claimed to be capable. 25mm and 28mm tubeless road tires can be pumped up to 115 psi (7.9 bar), while higher volume 32mm to 50mm wide tires are said to be still useable at pressures below 45 psi (3.1 bar).

The rims are compatible with standard road tubes at pressures up to 115 psi as well.

The ride

In contrast to some carbon rims which can provide an overly harsh, ultra-stiff ride, Stan’s Radial Impact Absorbing Carbon Technology claims that its rim shape and special lay-up process delivers a ride that’s supposed to feel laterally stiff, while still absorbing radial road vibrations.

Cynthia Frazier of the VeloClassic/Stan’s road team says: “We get the best of both worlds with a Stan's NoTubes tubeless-ready rim and an aggressive carbon profile. We can rail corners in a high speed professional crit and tackle gnarly gravel sectors in the local road race on the Avion wheels with confidence and style.”

The hubs

Avion R Pro wheelsets roll on Stan’s new Neo R Ultimate Speedsync hubs. The rear hub has a five-degree engagement along with updated bearing positions that are claimed to minimize axle stress and spin better.

Freehubs are available to fit both Shimano and Campagnolo cassettes.

Ready to roll

Everything except tires and tubes or sealant is included with the wheels. They're ready to be run tubeless with Stan’s yellow rim tape and 55mm tubeless valves are already installed.

Brake pads are included as well with a set of Stan’s Avion R All Weather Blue Compound brake pads. The wheels are also compatible with Swiss Stop Black Prince and Flash Pro Platinum brake pads.

Quick-release skewers are included. No thru-axle options are available as the Neo R hubs are road specific to minimize weight as much as possible.
