Downhill world champion Steve Peat is to star in a new mountain biking game for the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, and we've got the first screenshots.

The app, called Steve Peat – Downhill Mountain Biking, will feature a choice of courses, includes Peaty's home track of Wharncliffe in Sheffield. Plans are in the pipeline to release updates featuring other pro riders.

A virtual bike shop will allow players to buy the latest bikes and kit "for a very small cost" from Apple's App Store. You'll also be able to add new courses and riders.

Created by Liverpool-based Apposing, the game will be launched by Peat himself at the Fort William World Cup round on 5-6 June, where he'll give it a go and sign autographs.

David Brown, the agency’s managing director, said: "I used to race downhill many years ago and still ride today – but no racing as I'm approaching 30! I attended Steve's World Cup champs party in Sheffield and over a few Stellas we discussed the idea of a game. Since then we've been working on it flat-out in order to get it in the App Store for Fort William."

Brown said the app was the first of its kind and would capture the "fast and frantic" nature of downhill racing, as well as providing players with unique interactivity. To find out more, visit www.apposing.co.uk.
