Germany’s SRM is to collaborate with French carbon specialist Look Cycle on a range of products, starting with carbon crank arms for SRM’s Origin power meter.

SRM unveiled its spindle-mounted Origin power meter late last year, designed entirely by SRM and featuring exchangeable spindles to accommodate road, mountain and track frames.

When we saw the system last October, SRM claimed that the carbon cranks we saw weighed an incredible 99g per crank arm. The whole system weighs 599g and comes in three chainring configurations: 53/39, 52/36, 50/34.

The cranks will also come with Look’s Trilobe Technology, which allows one crank arm to function in three lengths (170mm / 172.5mm / 175mm), simply by rotating the asymmetrical pedal insert.

The SRM Origin power meter has a claimed battery life of 1,900 hours, with accuracy of /-1%.

The new SRM Origin system will be ridden during the 2017 season by WorldTour teams Bahrain-Merida and AG2R La Mondiale, with the latter to also use Look pedals on its new fleet of Factor Bikes.

No word yet on pricing, but SRM’s Doug Ryden previously suggested that the carbon power meter (without PC8 head unit) will cost around $2,499 and with a PC8 head unit, $2,999. The new SRM/Look system is available for pre-order now from the SRM.de website.
