Sustrans have launched their own three-week grand tour like the Tour de France - Pedal On UK - which will travel from London to Glasgow in eight stages.

Pedal On UK will visit some of the country’s newly opened bike and pedestrian paths, such as 36km of car free lanes around London and the Two Tunnels Greenway, which features the UK's longest cycling tunnel, near Bath in Somerset.

Over a period of three weeks starting in mid-August, celebrities, Olympic and Paralympic Games Makers, community groups, schools, volunteers will join the stages as they pass through their area.

The bike rides will raise awareness of new routes added to the National Cycle Network and the benefits they bring to people and the environment

To get involved in Pedal On UK, visit www.pedalonuk.org to register.

Malcolm Shepherd, Sustrans Chief Executive said: “We are proud to be organising Pedal On UK which will help people across the UK enjoy these routes and have some fun.”

Exact routes and the celebrity riders will be announced at a later date, said Sustrans.
