THM Carbones is an ultra-high end carbon parts fabricator from Germany, and this Fibula brake is a stunning piece of kit. Despite the brake's staggeringly low weight of 55g, THM says its stopping performance is on par with Shimano Dura-Ace, SRAM Red and Campag Super Record.

Both the front and back (pictured here) single-pivot calipers are designed separately, with different leverage ratios to optimise braking loads – the front provides higher force, while the rear is described as having a “sensible distribution of power”. A delicate-looking, but incredibly strong carbon spring is bent around the back of the brake to create resistance and give a spread that's able to take up to 26mm rims.

The Fibula brakes are constructed mostly from gorgeous 3k carbon weave with odd bits of wafer-thin titanium and aluminium providing bolts and cable anchors. They’re beautiful to behold, as you can see in our gallery above. They're compatible with all mechanical brake levers, but at around £1,099 / €1,200 a set (including pads), they’re for money-no-object weight weenies only.
