Taiwanese company Velocite, makers of the versatile Helios road bike and the Flux off-road model, have released the RT50, a full-carbon clincher wheelset weighing a claimed 1,630g. The wheels are scheduled for a UK arrival this month, and will cost about £1,500.

The 50mm deep-section rims are finished in 3k carbon for a smart cosmetic finish and the reflective decals are removable, for those who want a blackout look. Hubs are a 20-spoke Velocite Gram at the front and a 24-hole model at the rear.

While the price is hefty, it still sits at the lower end of the full carbon clincher market – a comparable ENVE 45 set will cost roughly £1,400 for the rims alone, and the new Reynolds’ 58 Aeros are north of £2,000.

The wheels will appear in shops and test centres by the end of the month, but are also available to buy direct via the Velocite website.
