Video: New York cyclist fined $50 for not riding in the bike lane

Casey Neistat's argument falls on deaf ears

A New York cyclist has filmed himself crashing into bike lane obstacles to show his fury at being fined $50 for riding outside of one.

Filmmaker Casey Neistat, 29, was pulled over by an over-zealous policeman who decided to interpret the law a little too rigidly. Despite his protestations that cycling in the bike lane wasn’t always the safest place to be, he was handed a ticket.

The ensuing video, which has already had more than one million hits on YouTube, shows Neistat in a farcical and painfully funny sequence of collisions with cars, wagons and, in a final (presumably deliberate) irony, a police car.
