We’ve just received a pre-production version of USE’s new R1 aero bar, an all in one base bar plus extensions designed for time trialling and triathlon.

Weighing just 645g, the R1 represents a significant change from the USE Tulas. The biggest being the way the extensions and pads are mounted - on pillars rather than single bolt clamps. They are designed to fit 31.8mm stems as well as most fully integrated base bar setups such as the Specialized Shiv, Scott Plasma 3 and Giant Trinity Advanced. USE claim they save 4W at 31mph (50km/h) over the Tulas.

In the following video, BikeRadar's resident time trialling nut Jeff Jones gives the USE R1s a once over, and he’ll be reviewing these for Triathlon Plus and BikeRadar, so keep an eye on the magazine and the site.
