Voluntary recall of 3T Ventus aero bars

Rubber grips cause slips in wet conditions

3T have announced a voluntary recall of some of their Ventus aero bars in the US, in co-operation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The affected models are the Ventus Ltd, Ltd 17, Ltd Gold and Ltd Track (black with silver stripe), and the Ventus Team and Team 17 (black with red stripe). All have Ventus and 3T logos are on the topside of the bar, along with the model name.

Riders are advised to stop using the bars immediately because the rubber grips can loosen or slip off during use in humid, wet or salty conditions. Two incidents have been reported where riders suffered minor abrasions.

3T’s US distributors, BikeMine, are offering a redesigned grip which is fitted with adhesive to remedy the problem. The fix is free and can be carried out by owners or local 3T dealers.

The recalled handlebars were sold at bike shops and online nationwide between January 2008 and November 2009. The Ltd model sold for US$1,200 and the Team for $1,000.

Further information can be found on 3T's website, or by calling BikeMine’s toll-free Ventus recall hotline on 877-861-9125. The full CPSC recall notice can be found here.
