Why not celebrate the summer solstice by challenging yourself this weekend? From sportives and charity rides to mountain bike extravaganzas, here are just a few of the events coming up. See if there's anything that takes your fancy.

Chiltern Challenge 100 (Sunday 24 June 2012)

Join Action Medical Research for the Chiltern Challenge 100, with a choice of a 100km or 100-mile route exploring the quiet lanes and picturesque towns of middle England.

Entrants can expect feed stations, a buffet-style lunch mid-way through, medical and mechanical services and the support of a sweep vehicle. Online entry for this event closes today at 9pm, but you can still sign up on the day.

South Downs Epic MTB (Sunday 24 June 2012)

This weekend sees the arrival of the South Downs Epic MTB event, part of the Wiggle Super Series, with a 42.7-mile routes across the South Downs for those up for a big challenge. Flowy singletrack, demanding climbs and sweet descents are all in order. And if you're tight for time or feel your fitness isn't up to the 42.7 miles, there is the option of a 23.7-mile route.

Be quick to register if you want to enter online – there's a small surcharge if you sign up on the day. Entrants get a free energy drink and energy snacks, plus electronic chip timing, bike wash facilities, mechanical support and on-site catering.

Suffolk Villages Charity Bike Ride (Sunday 24 June 2012)

Enjoy a ride around the Suffolk countryside this Sunday, having a great day out on your bike and helping to raise money for local charities and the British Heart Foundation.

You can choose from three routes – green (25km), red (45km) and blue (75km), all through beautiful Suffolk villages. Entrants can expect feed stations, first aiders, mechanics and refreshments. Advanced entries are now closed, but you can enter on the day for £20.
