Yet more signings to Team Sky

Italians Cioni and Vigano join British-based squad

Davide Vigano (centre) is the latest signing to Team Sky, along with Dario Cioni

Italian road pros Dario Cioni and Davide Vigano have joined Team Sky. They are the latest in a steady trickle of signings that have been announced over the past couple of month, bringing the roster to 24 riders.

The squad still lacks an obvious star, and although there have been persistent rumours about Tour hero Bradley Wiggins, his current team Garmin-Slipstream seem to have a firm grip on him.

Since Vigano turned pro with Quickstep-Innergetic in 2005, he has had top 10 stage finishes in the Tour of Spain, Giro d’Italia and Tour of Germany. This season the 25-year old sprinter finished sixth in Germany’s biggest one-day race, Vattenfall Cyclassics.

Cioni, 34, will enter his 12th pro season with Team Sky having been with Italian squad ISD, Silence-Lotto and Liquigas. A former national time trial champion, he has had top five finishes in the Giro d’Italia, Tour of Romandie and Tour of Slovenia.

The other Team Sky riders already announced are: Geraint Thomas, Steve Cummings, Pete Kennaugh, Chris Froome, Ian Stannard, Russell Downing, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Thomas Löfkvist, Kurt Arvesen, Simon Gerrans, Juan Antonio Flecha, Kjell Carlstrom, John Lee Augustyn, Greg Henderson, Lars Petter Nordhaug, Morris Possoni, Michael Barry, Serge Pauwels, Chris Sutton, Sylvain Calzati, Nicolas Portal and Mathew Hayman.
