The BD1 is a gender-specific 12L pack with a new carrying system that uses a solid external frame and fangled ‘Flink’ ball joint between the frame and body of the pack.
At first glance, it looks overbuilt and you’re left wondering if it’s all necessary. The Flink ball joint provides masses of movement in the shoulder straps system, while the mainframe/waist strap takes the full load on your hips. This enables dramatic upper body movement, especially when you’re out of the saddle and giving it some.
You can adjust the back length to suit shorter/taller riders, which makes this a pretty versatile pack. There’s one external pocket, a great concealed rain cover, helmet stash strap and an internal sleeve to take a hydration bladder.
It’s a pack that takes some getting used to and is more comfy when laden with kit but, unlike the best hydro packs, you always feel you’re carrying it. The back plate that houses the Flink is noticeable with a slight pressure point and the hard waist straps can dig in.
