The Zealot 16 is Osprey’s first go at a ‘gravity’ orientated backpack. As the name implies, you get 16 litres of storage capacity (there’s also a 10-litre version available). That’s a decent amount of space to transport your downhill kit for a day’s uplifting.
We especially liked the chunky netted side-pockets, designed to stow knee pads or riding shoes. The handy strap pocket is good for keeping your phone or wallet to hand, too. We also appreciated the removable tool roll, which can stow all the essentials. Better yet, chuck it in the bag first and it can then be easily accessed from a zip at the bottom.
Osprey make a big point of saying it offers a ‘full-face helmet carry’ but this is, in fact, the ‘thread two outer straps through the chinguard’ method we’d normally use.
Good as it is for lugging kit, the Zealot works on the bike too, thanks to the comfy AirScape rear, chunkily winged waist strap and a 3-litre reservoir.
