Thorn’s Expedition carrier may be a touch on the portly side and its boxy design may lack elegance, but there’s little to beat it for sheer stiffness and brawn.
It’s rated to a more-than-generous 40kg and if you can find the space, you can strap on another 20kg when it’s mounted with Thorn’s own 6mm screw adaptors.
The powder coating is tough and ours has survived countless miles of abuse, all around the Indian Himalayas, on every road surface imaginable.
In the unlikely event of damage, the Expedition lives up to its name as the steel construction makes it easy to bend back into shape, or even weld.
Midway mounts silence rattly mudguards and there’s a removable light bracket, so your rear LED blinker can always be seen, even when the rack’s heavily laden.
