Our review

The best helmet cam set-up we’ve used, although you might have to club together with mates to get one

With more and more styles of helmet camera on the market, finding the right set-up can be tricky. Drivedata offer several high quality options which, unlike some of the cheaper units available, don’t need a separate recording device.

Based around a DR2 one channel solid state recorder, the Drivedata set-up we tested used a 520-line bullet camera, and came with everything else needed – charger, extension leads, LANC remote control, waterproof/bash proof case for the recorder, 2GB flashcard, card reader and all the mountings for helmet and bike.

It’s pricier than most systems we’ve seen, but the DR2 package works very well, and is certainly minimal – it easily fits in to a small riding pack and the LANC remote can be threaded through hydration hose mounts.

We tested it using a 2GB flash card, which allows 30 minutes of footage on the highest quality setting, and gave excellent results as you can see from this ‘Video of the Week’.

We were especially impressed with the way the camera deals with dappled light – the adjustments it makes when going from light to dark are very quick, and the colours are pretty vibrant, making it far better than most of the other helmet camera devices we’ve used in the past.
