Cateye Hybrid Front Light

Our review

Not the brightest light for the price – but it could be a life-saver

Star Trek-style looks and a futuristic energy source mark out the Hybrid. Its solar panel charges an internal NiMH battery, providing a couple of hours of light.

An alkaline AA battery acts as a backup for an extra 10 hours of illumination. The result was that we couldn’t run this light down during testing.

The beam cast is round with some peripheral illumination built in, and although it’s less powerful than other similarly priced lights, it’s fine for commuting.

But its real strength is that you should never be left without any light at all. If we’re being picky, the switches are small and quite fiddly.
