Cateye’s Sumo 2 is a robust heavyweight for those after bomb-proofing rather than race-ready performance. The head is a big chunk of geometric alloy, which makes the helmet mount an optimistic inclusion. The worm-screw bar mount needs tightening up hard to stop movement on steppy, rocky descents, and the long rubber-ended battery is hard to fit, let alone secure, onto curved frames.
Despite all the bulk, power output and run times are average with less spread and depth than lighter but comparatively-priced lights. The beam pattern has distinct cross hairs in the centre and a distracting double halo at the periphery.
