Well designed and versatile, but needs the right bars

Weighing in at 472g, the Gator 605 is a good looking, powerful and thoroughly useable three LED system – 3W flood, 3W spot and a smaller blinker for around town – that’s just a bit too picky about the bars it sits on.

The system consists of three parts: the three lamp head, a cute controller and a 3Ah Lithium Ion battery. All three have a silicone rubber clamp and you also get two rubber ties to tidy up the extra cables.

The head requires a fair bit of space to fit, and the silicone rubber fixing, though simple, doesn’t allow for much adjustment. It works best with bars that have a section perpendicular to your frame; fit it on swept bars and it’ll be pointing into the hedgerow. You could try mounting it on your fork if your bars don’t work.

Although the differences between the flood and spot lights aren’t that noticeable, the beams are nicely balanced. The flood on its own is plenty for most road riding, so just add the spot for descents or off-road ventures.

The controller is easy to use – each light has one button to toggle through the settings – but the indicator lights can get a bit distracting when you’re out on unlit roads.

The Lithium Ion battery fits to the frame and gives about gives about 2-3 hours of mixed use per charge.
