Luu’s flagship light is big on beam spread but can’t compete with similarly expensive lights for punch and run time.
That ‘vintage car lamp’ head unit gives the Ultra Pro the distinction of being the only light we’ve tested with a headunit heavier than its battery. The four LEDs behind the diffusing lens give a broad and consistent spread of light, but considering the cost and a claimed 2,400 lumens, it doesn’t project light very far down the trail.
The four LEDs chew through battery life quickly, so you need to pay attention to the runtime colour change in the rubberised main button.
The broad plastic cantilevered mount (with half-turn click-lock) puts the lamp ahead of cable interference, but makes it more vulnerable in a crash. The weight and size of the head unit also make using the supplied helmet mount a clumsy and neck-straining experience.
There’s no rubberised backing to the battery strap, so tends to slide about on the frame on rough descents, which becomes irritating and potentially paint-scuffing. We’ve no recent long-term experience of Luu, so can’t vouch for reliability.
