Reassuringly solid, the UltraFazer Max’s 1-watt LED throws out a round beam with a central spot and a reasonable spread, though with little peripheral lighting.
It goes through AA batteries quickly, so high-powered rechargeables are the answer for this one. It has three modes – high, low and flash.
Claimed to be waterproof down to 50m, it certainly survived an unscheduled dip in a canal. We’ve had one of these for years and it’s still going strong. A good call for commuting, though not really for unlit routes.
