Pricey, but proof the dynamo light has come of age

The one thing that you nearly always have to do if you want a bright light on the front of your bike is to recharge the battery after each ride. If you’re riding in the dark for long periods of time then there’s always a balancing act to be done between light output and how long your battery will last. With the Supernova E3 triple, you just switch on, ride, and light up the road.

It’s a very high performance front light, powered by any compatible 6-volt dynamo (preferably a hub dynamo). The Supernova – as its name suggests – kicks out an impressive amount of light, and there’s a rear light that’s equally as good to go with it, which also runs from a dynamo (£70, £40 for a rack-mounted version).

Inside the Supernova front light there is a capacitor that will give you about seven seconds of full output light when you stop pedalling, before switching to a lower output ‘standlight’ mode, which lasts for a good 10 minutes on average. It’s easy to fit and great to use, with plenty of light even at low speeds.
