Published:
With a halogen bulb unit and a NiMH battery pack, the Commuter from Topeak is getting left behind as LEDs and Lithium Ion/Polymer batteries march onwards.
That said, the unit and all the fittings are of typical high Topeak quality. The light comes complete with a steerer tube top cap which allows you to mount the battery on the stem, and the light unit clamp is available in oversize and standard versions and places the light directly in line with the stem.
Although let down a little by side visibility, it’s bright enough for riding at a reasonable pace. Two power settings allow for an average burn time of about two and a half hours, and durability is excellent.
