Our review
A super-powerful and confidence-enhancing lamp at a cracking price

With a machined alloy head unit weighing over half a pound (237g to be exact) this is not for weak-necked riders, and the ‘Johnny Five from Short Circuit’ design is aesthetically divisive. It works brilliantly on the trail though.

The two XML LEDs behind those big ‘eyes’ give powerful long range punch, while two XPGs in the ‘mouth’ keep everything lit around your front wheel. There’s some loss of depth perception off drops and so on if you don’t use a bar light as well, but it definitely gives more usable and informative illumination than any other helmet light.

Despite being so powerful, the high capacity (yet light) battery meant it was still shining more than an hour after others fizzled out. Buying direct from Troute makes it a bargain and while we’ve never had a reliability issue with any Troute light, it means great backup straight from the manufacturer.
