Our review
A solid, longer shackled U-lock that works well

At 300mm long, the Squire Urban Protector is effectively a long shackle design, albeit narrower than a standard U-lock – so it’s worth checking that it’ll fit where you want it to before you commit to buying it.

The Urban Protector’s shackle is extremely flexible and can be twisted as much as you like but the vice-like grip of that lock mechanism keeps hanging on, and all our cropping didn’t manage to harm the shackle either.

During the first test it happily survived five minutes of abuse from our hammer, chisel, saw and lever, and with a little jiggling of the keys we could still operate the lock post-attack. However, it didn’t take long once we broke out the portable angle grinder – it made short work of the shackle in a hair over 20 seconds.

It’s not that long, but the Protector still has five minutes and a pass under its belt. A decent lock for the money.
