Adventure AT-2 Child trailer review

Considering you can spend £400 on a child trailer, the first thing you'd probably ask yourself is: what's missing? Well, the seats don't recline and they're not massively well padded, so if you're planning long hours with the kids in tow it's probably not the right choice.

Lots of good features for the money, but the best for shorter journeys.

Considering you can spend £400 on a child trailer, the first thing you'd probably ask yourself is: what's missing? Well, the seats don't recline and they're not massively well padded, so if you're planning long hours with the kids in tow it's probably not the right choice.

If you're looking for an option for short journeys and the occasional family outing, then the good news is that the alloy-framed AT-2 has a lot going for it. The frame folds easily, it's pretty light and it's simple to fix to your bike (via the rear QR). The quick-release wheels have good quality, easy rolling tyres and there's bags of room for two kids, jackets, blankets, a picnic and your toolkit. Depending on the weather, you can ditch the cover, but even with it on there's plenty of window space for little ones to survey the passing world.

As with all trailers, there's a risk of tipping it over if one of the wheels hits an obstruction. The maximum stated speed is 15mph, but it can capsize at much lower speeds than that, so be careful. Design-wise, I do think that some of the ground clearance could be sacrificed for a lower centre of gravity, which would improve stability. If you make sure it's tightened properly the five-point harness is secure enough to keep small bodies inside the cage should the worst happen.

You can lose the seat for shopping trips, and the trailer has a maximum load of a whopping 45kg. Safety kit includes four reflectors, reflective side strips and a flag. There's also a kit available to transform it into a pavement-filling double stroller.
