Our review

Light, comfy, good looking and well priced – what’s not to like?

When we reviewed Alpina’s Pheos helmet last year we were underwhelmed. It was a decent enough lid but we didn’t think it justified its £130 pricetag. The Mythos, on the other hand, includes all of that helmet’s best features – light weight, comfortable (if clunky looking) retention system, reasonable venting – in a package that costs £50 less, making it somewhat of a bargain.

It feels feathery in the hand and on the head (weight of our 52-57cm size was 263g), with an amply, but not overly, padded cradle to keep it in place. In fact, one tester said it was the comfiest he’d worn. The rear portion of the fit system can be angled down to cradle your occipital lobe, giving an enhanced feeling of security.

Coverage is good – somewhere in between a traditional cross-country lid and a dropped-rear all-mountain/trail helmet – and we like the look, with flowing lines and understated “White Argyle” graphics. Finish quality is good, too, and it meets the EN 1078 safety standard. Our main niggle is that the peak is removable but not angle-adjustable.
