The complete bike struggles on spec and on the scales

The Mission (previously the Goat) has been available for years in the US and comes in four versions. Unfortunately, Raleigh UK only brings in the cheapest version.

You still get a hydroformed frameset including externally reinforced tapered head tube, ISCG (International Standard Chain Guide) tabs and two-piece welded Knuckle Box Commencal-style rocker linkage. The cockpit is well shaped to match the relaxed geometry.

The long 63mm stroke Fox XV RP23 shock means the 150mm travel back end feels controlled. Open bath damped Fox forks benefit from a tapered steerer tube, but tip stiffness is let down by the QR (quick release) wheel. The double wall rimmed wheels contribute over 12lb to its 33lb weight.

Suspension is steady under power, but climbing and acceleration are made harder by the flexy Power Spline axle on the Truvativ double and bash chainring. White cables and spokes can’t disguise lows such as X5 shifters and powerful but blunt Hayes brakes.
