A good ride and beautiful frame – but the kit doesn’t quite match it

Cinelli buck a few trends with their 2011 Saetta. The price is low for a Campagnolo-equipped bike, and it’s also one of the few genuine compacts at this price. The Veloce groupset works perfectly and feels great. However, we couldn’t help feeling that it isn’t quite exotic enough when you’re forking out £1,900.

Gripes out of the way, the Saetta is an absolute treat to ride, bounding up hills like a mountain goat and tackling corners with elan (or like an eland…). For the same price you can have the Saetta specced with Shimano Tiagra, while the frameset alone will cost you £1,375.
