Lab Gear Merino Beanie review
With the nights drawing in and the thermometer dropping, staying warm is a primary concern for most hardy winter cyclists. Keeping your head toasty is one of the best ways to keep in the warmth because that’s where you lose up to a third of your body heat.
The obvious answer is to stick on a hat – which is fine if you don’t wear a lid. If you do, you’ll need something ultra thin like this beanie from Lab Gear. What’s special here is that it’s made from organic Australian merino wool. They’re sewn Down Under too.
If you didn’t already know, merino wool has great wicking capabilities to keep you dry and warm, drawing the sweat away from your skin to the outside of the garment to evaporate. Besides doing this superbly, it’s also itch-free and can be worn for ages before it starts to stink, unlike man-made fibres.
Once on, the beanie is so light and comfy you almost forget you’re wearing it, and so thin you can wear your helmet without any major adjustments. We love this little beanie both on and off the bike. It’s possibly the best piece of inexpensive riding gear you’ll get the most use out of this winter. Eight colours to chose from.
