Very French – exceedingly comfortable with some quirky handling

Lapierre’s Sensium is designed for long distance comfort, and has an elastomer in its rear wishbone – above the seatstays – for extra plushness. Or ‘Just the right amount of vertical flex to keep you fresh for the entire ride,’ as the blurb has it.

We’re cynical about such claims of course, but after racking up the miles we reckon that the elastomer does indeed help to keep your rear end comfortable. The Sensium also climbs well and has a good turn of speed. But the back doesn’t seem to be entirely at one with the front, where the handling feels light and slightly disconnected – too light for some of our testers.
