Spanish brand Massi produces a vast range of bikes for on and off-road use.
Our test bike’s 105 mix configuration means Shimano 105 shifters and mechs rounded off with some kit from lower tier groupsets, including a non-series R565 50/34 chainset and a threaded bottom bracket. The eagle-eyed will notice that it also has older 5600 series shifters; rest assured, customer builds will have 5700.
- Highs: Attractive frame, balanced ride
- Lows: Heavy, so-so spec for the money
At a claimed 1690g, the frameset is relatively hefty for carbon and in combination with middle-of-the-road build kit the bike is pushing 9kg, a fair chunk for a one-and-a-half-grand ride.
You might expect the Massi to feel ponderously slow as a result, but it achieves a competent all-rounder performance, comfortable in spite of the 31.6mm aluminium seatpost (which was oddly long) but lively with it.
With a 13cm head-tube on our small 48cm test machine, we could get low enough to feel fast but the position wasn’t that extreme. Sensible gearing will accommodate most riders, and despite the middling spec – which does include Look Keo pedals – we warmed to the stylish chassis with its elegantly blended-in seatclamp and impeccable road manners.
