Not cheap, but these energy gels do work

Torq energy gels worked well to boost blood sugar and stave off hunger pangs after an hour and a half of fast-paced cross-country slicing, and gave us the lift we needed to maintain our pace to the finish.

They’re middle-of-the-road on price, though.

They come in a variety of flavours: thicker-texture Strawberry or Black Cherry are sold as ‘Yoghurts’, while the Forest Fruits (with added guarana) and Orange & Banana option has a thinner consistency and is marketed as a gel.

They’re free from artificial flavours, colours and preservatives, they’re wheat- and dairy-free and are suitable for vegans.
