Unique looks and amazing ventilation, but very heavy and pricey

Casco might also produce horseriding helmets, but it's certainly not one to follow the herd, as this radical looking lid shows. The multiple parallel rib design reminded us a lot of old roadie 'bunch of leather bananas' helmets, but with only an in-molded poly strip holding them together, wind flow and ventilation is incredible - even when you're crawling up hills in the granny ring.

There's a soft edged opaque visor too, which screens out most rain and sun glare, and while the double spoiler might be more cosmetic than functional, it does add a certain 'Cosworth chic'. The front straps are moulded into the shell too, so you don't have to faff with arranging them when you put it on, and the thin strip pads minimise sweat soaking. There's no missing the massive soft rubber tightening dial on the back of the cradle either, and small, medium and large shell sizes ensure a good accurate fit. The admittedly high price also includes a fancy wooden box too, although it's not exactly practical for carrying it round in. This leaves only the hefty weight to upset what is otherwise a very rosy applecart.
