Secure and sturdy pads that look great. They could be even better with a bit more support around the knee

The CE certified Moab knee and shin protectors are crammed full of features in a bid to keep you safe, and looking good. Unlike many other pad manufacturers, Alpinestars have gone an extra step to make the fit as close as possible.

Rather than just using conventional Velcro strap closures, the Moab uses a padded Velcro strap that sits on the leg, with a second adjustable Velcro strap attached to the buckle that then clips into the side of the pad for extra security.

In reality this means you can tailor the fit extremely well, and the added security means less chance of slippage if you do take a tumble. The polypropylene knee and shin guards can withstand knocks well, and dual-density biofoam helps cushion any impacts comfortably.

The wide Velcro closure can bunch at the back of the knee, which did chafe when we were sat down pedaling between runs. The most important thing here though is the protection.

After taking numerous spills, the Moabs remained where they needed to be and did exactly what they were designed for. Our only real niggle is that they could do with a little more padding around the sides of the knees, but that’s about it.
